Ang Tshering Sherpa

Born in Khumjung village at 3,790m in the shadow of Mt. Everest, Ang Tshering Sherpa has dedicated his life to the mountains and the people who live among them. Educated in a school established by Sir Edmund Hillary, and raised by a father who guided Himalayan expeditions, Mr. Sherpa’s early exposure to mountaineering laid the foundation for a lifelong mission.

In 1982, he acquired Asian Trekking, a company that became a pillar of responsible adventure tourism in Nepal. Under his leadership, it not only supported thousands of climbers but also empowered the Sherpa community, creating jobs and fostering local development.

Mr. Sherpa’s global recognition includes awards, honorary titles, and leadership positions in international organizations such as the UIAA, Nepal Mountaineering Association, and Climate Alliance of Himalayan Communities. His legacy is now carried forward by his son, while he continues to serve as a visionary figure in mountain policy, tourism advocacy, and environmental action.

At Uptimaze, we are honored to have Mr. Sherpa as an Advisor — a true Himalayan leader whose journey from Khumbu to the global stage inspires purpose, perseverance, and profound impact.

“The mountains teach us humility, perseverance, and purpose. In serving them, we serve humanity.”
— Ang Tshering Sherpa
